Assessment Overview
Part A: Data Analysis and Descriptive Analytics (200 words, 15 marks)
You are provided a data file containing characteristics relating to the performance of surfers (people who physically ride waves at the beach). You are to undertake descriptive analytics for the data file provided. The column headings are largely self-explanatory and can be further understood with a little research.
A Word report is to be completed with the infographic software of your choice–either Power BIor Tableau.
The following questions are to be answered for the dataset provided:
- Develop person as for both male and female surfers, using the data provided. Provide a few paragraphs interpreting these personas.
- Generate summary statistics for 3 of the variables in the dataset, supported by visualisations. Provide a few paragraphs interpreting this data.
- Identify which variables are positively correlated to “Overall Performance”, along with supporting data. Provide an interpretation of the variables correlated with “Overall Performance”. This interpretation of the data includes what makes a good performing surfer.
- Explain how you have dealt with cells containing missing data.
- Convert a column of data from non-metric to metric data. Produce a visualisation of the results and explain any limitations with this data conversion process.
Part B: Leadership and organization of Analytics staff(9Marks)
Refer to your Lecture notes for this section
- In your own words, write a short paragraph (not dot points)on the benefits of an analytics-centric organization and characteristics of good analytics leadership.
- In your own words, write a short paragraph (not dot points) comparing centralized versus decentralized ways of organizing analytics staff and the advantages and disadvantages of each one.
- In your own words, write a short paragraph (not dot points) on how you would assess analytics capability in an organisation, taking into account recent developments in analytics.
“In your own words”means minimal reliance on AI generated content.
Part C: Example of Predictive Analytics in addressing a specific business problem for a specific business
(300words, 6marks)
Describe how predictive analytics can be used as part of a solution to a business problem with reference to ONE real-world case study of your own choosing.
You will need to conduct independent research and consult resources provided in this subject. Describe how the chosen business specifically uses Predictive Analytics and provide references to support your view.
Appropriate use of Generative AI
- The use of Gen AI is optional for parts of this assessment. Your collaboration with Generative AI must be clearly referenced just as you would reference any other resource type used.
- In addition, you must include an appendix that documents your Generative AI collaboration including all prompts and responses used for the assessment.
- A penalty will be awarded if any part of the assessment is deemed by the assessor where it shows an over-reliance on AI-generated content in your answer. There needs to be a demonstration of original thought.
