Video Cast and presentation (Group work) (Presentation will be taken in week 11, 12 and 13)Module code: BMA4004-20 Module title: Design Thinking for Enterprise Subject field: Business and Management Assignment: A2. Awareness Campaign Assessment type: Assessment Title: Presentation of a Video Cast: How might we change the current state of…(X), to create a better future? Weight: 40% of overall grade Level: 4 Submission Deadline: 9th January 2026, 23:59
This assignment offers you the opportunity to form a group of three to four to present your ideas dynamically. Using a Design Thinking approach, select ideas from your individual assignment 1, for this module. Your task is to tell a story of how you could change the current state, for a better future. You may choose to use Google Slides, Google Sites ,PowerPoint, or a hybrid version to achieve this.
Ask yourselves: How Might We... work creatively and collaboratively to develop a new product (s), service(s) and/or artefact(s) to both generate awareness of a ‘wicked’ problem and go some way to alleviating its impact? This will be the focus of your Video-Cast.
Example: If your problem focused around e.g., county lines, your solution might be to engage with local stakeholders to encourage and support the development of more extensive Rural Youth Opportunities.
The task is to tell your development story and to showcase your knowledge of Design Thinking by applying it creatively to a problem of your choosing. You should apply Design Thinking methods to signpost your story and direction.
You will then respond to your groups “How Might We…?” question by preparing a visually interesting, dynamic, and engaging presentation. You will pre-record this presentation using MS Teams/Zoom as a Video-Cast and will showcase into your (face-to-face) group presentation in class and teacher will ask questions afterwards based on the topic. Your Video cast should last no more than15 minutes available (+/- 10%). The Video cast should map your journey of discovery and development through the following stages .Each student must submit the details of submission including video link of your presentation using video link form (Use Appendix-1).
Model testing& iteration.
(Do not include a reference list slide – it’s a very boring way to end a presentation). You may however include citation information (progressively) at the bottom of each slide, using small font sizes.
Who will be in my group? You will self-organise into groups of 3 to 4.
Can you explain what we have to do in another way, please?
Produce 15 minutes (+/-10%) Video- Cast using MS Team/Zoom to pre-record y our innovative presentation content for the above brief .Then use this as the focus of your (face-to-face)presentation.
The following is a useful presentation structure to start thinking about.
All members of the group must attend the LIVE presentation session and must feature in the Video-Cast equally; in order to introduce and defend the submission. A 40% cap will be applied for non-attendance and or not featuring in the Video-Cast (no excuses, this is an exam).
Tutors want you to demonstrate you can apply the Design Thinking method to a ‘wicked’ problem. (You will not be expected to develop a final product, but you will be able to effectively demonstrate your product/artefact key features, look, function, and show how it fulfils its defined purpose. Employers like to see demonstrable problem-solving skills when recruiting. It’s good skill building for your future prospects as graduates.
Each group member must upload their PowerPoint presentation, ensuring that the front cover includes all required submission details along with the appendix. The appendix must contain the link to your recorded MS Teams/Zoom Video-Cast.
Finally, you will attend your regular class to present your Video-Cast.
Please note that PowerPoint slides must be submitted on Turnitin and should include a link to your Video-Cast.
Where will we be presenting? This can be done anywhere, and innovative students may capitalise on this. After the meeting, you can share the video link with your teacher. This will make things easier in the face-to-face sessions. You will be expected to stand at the front (behind the lectern if you must!) and introduce your pre-recorded submission. Then collectively answer questions on process and ideation at the end for about 5-6 mins.
What happens if the recording doesn’t play? Your tutor will make a judgement call, but generally speaking, if your recording does not play you should plan to do the full presentation in the LIVE session, and we will record you doing it.
How do we do this assignment? Work together on-line and in tutorial sessions etc. to define and select a “what if…” problem (this may be drawn from one of your assignment 1 contributions or a hybrid of several ideas). In order to develop ideas, try to include some primary research findings. Then ideate and select some further workable solutions. We would like to see you attempt some prototype models, perhaps each member of the team could attempt 1 prototype solution? Include images of you working on and testing them for extra impact.
Should we do the parts separately, i.e., divide the work up? Probably some division of labour will be necessary. But you should work collectively to develop all aspects of the brief. However, in order to keep things interesting when presenting, please rotate through slides with a variety of speakers. (It is not acceptable for one student to just do the introductions; the group grade will be impacted by inequitable allocation of speaking roles).
APPENDIX 1: use the following form to submit your assessment.

Selection of Materials Process Evaluation of the proposed solution (40%) | Insufficient thought has gone into the selection of materials. The presentation lacks any critical aspect and there is room for a great deal of room for improvement in organisation of materials and is difficult to engage with from a user perspective. | Selection of materials is useful, and you show evidence of reading some chapters of the core text. The presentation lacks critical aspects and there is room for improvement in organisation of materials. | Selection of materials is good. You have identified critical aspects of design thinking for your organisation and your use of materials is useful. | Selection of materials is excellent. You have identified and rationalised critical aspects of design thinking for your organisation and your use of materials is useful and holistic. | As for A selection of materials is excellent. You have identified and rationalised critical aspects of design thinking for your organisation and your use of materials is useful and holistic. with the addition of varied and multiple academic resources. |
Professionalism Meaningful design process (30%) | The slides are poorly executed and lack flow. | You show a satisfactory understanding of professional standards. There are numerous errors, but the slides are sometimes difficult to follow. Key Learning Outcomes are insufficiently described. | You show a sound understanding of professional standards. There are a few errors, but the slides are generally easy to engage with and follow. There are no discernible errors, and the slides are easy to engage with and follow. Key Learning Outcomes are highlighted, and appropriate language is adopted with addition of highly developed original graphics and scripting. |
Effective (and equal) Communication Prototyping (30%) | Your submission is poor by all standards and does not fit the brief. Disparity in team task – confusion and lots of false starts seem to typify the presentation. | The slides are a usable and satisfactory deck. However, the deck would need a clear explanation and not standalone. Teamwork is evident but not clearly and equally shared. Many instances where better planning would improve the presentation. | The slide deck is sound. It is quite well organised and fairly clear for the most part. Clear instructions explain the method and transitions and effects are used to enhance the user experience. Teamwork roles are clearly allocated and adhered to – perhaps some aspects could have run more smoothly. | The slide deck is well organised and clear. Clear instructions explain the method and transitions and effects are used to enhance the user experience. Teamwork roles add to the smooth running of the presentation – equity is clear. Efficient and well-rehearsed. | The slide deck is very well organised and absolutely clear. Instructions explain the method and transitions are used to enhance the viewers’ experience. Teamwork is evidently a key aspect of the success of the presentation.
